Versatile + Skilled Combo-Forward Chauncey Wiggins Talks Strong Start to Spring and Latest on Recruitment
Team Curry 2022 combo-forward Chauncey Wiggins started off the travel-ball season strong with a productive outing in Atlanta at the OTR Sweet 16.
“I can make perimeter shots, grab rebounds and push it up the floor. I can make a play on offense or defense.”
That versatility is the precise reason we like his projection at the next level. At a lengthy 6’9 with an outstanding jumpshot and the ability to face-up off the bounce from the perimeter, Wiggins is a prospect capable of impacting the game from multiple spots on the floor.
Chauncey has no shortage of suitors on the recruiting trail. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, USF, Missouri State and Kennesaw State have all extended offers with interest coming from Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia.
With visits back on the table starting in June, Wiggins is looking to see multiple campuses as he starts to narrow in on his recruitment. The standout junior has no favorites, but is tracking toward an early-signing decision later this year. Play style and compatibility with existing personnel are among the important criteria.
“I’m looking to commit in the Fall of my senior year. How I fit into the coach’s system, style of play and roster constructions are the big factors.”
As the Spring/Summer progresses, Chauncey wants to become adept at creating offense off the bounce and crashing the boards.
“Dribble penetration and rebounding are the things I’m working to get better at.”
The Atlanta-area native is a matchup nightmare that can blow-by traditional PFs/Cs off the dribble while having the shooting ability to be a true wing. He is the epitome of the word upside, as he’s already a productive player that isn’t remotely close to scratching the surface of what he can be long terms once he adds additional muscle mass coupled with continued skill development.
