Undervalued Forward Malik Dia Talks Breakout Performance + Updates Recruitment
2022 forward Malik Dia was our breakout performer in Atlanta last weekend at the Sweet 16 hosted by On The Radar Hoops.
At 6’10, Malik displayed a lethal combination of perimeter shotmaking, athleticism and rim protection while suiting up for Team Thad.
“I’m a versatile player that scores on all 3 levels. My length bothers people around the rim, just blocking shots and defending every position as well. I’m showing people that I can be one of the better players in the 2022 class.”
That level of versatility has attracted coaches in recent weeks as TCU and Nebraska have extended offers in recent days. Dia may very well be on the cusp of becoming a national-level prospect with several heavy-hitters keeping tabs.
Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Belmont, Western Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Lipscomb, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Dartmouth and Tulsa are all showing interest.”
With all the new attention on the recruiting trail, the standout junior is taking things in stride and doesn’t plan on making a commitment until the Winter months. Academics and preparation for the highest level are among the important criteria in the decision-making process.
“I want to go to a good academic school. A school that believes in my skillset, and helps me accomplish my dream of playing professional basketball.”
For now though, Dia is focused on improving his ability to create offense off the bounce.
“I’m working to improve as a ballhandler to be a more versatile player.”
Also a standout in the classroom, we love the combination of academics + on-court ability for Malik. At 6’10 with a 7’2 wingspan, he projects as a versatile forward that stretches the floor while providing a vertical lob threat and high-level rim protection on the defensive end. He has the look of one of the most coveted prospects in America over the Summer.
